What is Freight Broker?

A Freight Broker is an intermediary between shippers and carriers that makes the needed arrangements for the transportation of goods. Brokers don’t typically take possession of freight as part of their responsibilities. However, many brokers also operate as freight forwarders and carriers will do so.

Their most important functions include:

  • Connecting shippers and carriers
  • Negotiating freight rates
  • Logistics expertise
  • Freight documentation
  • Carrier selection
  • Compliance with regulations
  • Customer service

Some freight brokers will even be able to provide shipment tracking details and assist with problem-solving when troubles come up.
