What is Chassis Split Fee?

A chassis split fee is charged when a chassis is not already available at the container site. In other words, the chassis is in one spot and the container is in the other. In that case, a carrier will have to spend additional time and mileage traveling to pick up a chassis for transport, which will then be passed along to you in the form of an extra fee.

This is similar to a chassis repo fee, although it’s specific to the point of time in which both are needed. The fees for this, which entail having the driver potentially go to two locations, can be combined with chassis repo fees.
