What is Accessorial Charges?

Accessorial Charges are additional costs charged for services not included in the standard rate of freight transportation. These can include added services that were arranged with the initial transportation like liftgate service, residential delivery, and limited access.

Unforeseen details like detention, redelivery, and freight reclassification are other examples.

Freight reclassification charges are usually limited to less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments. Shipping rates for LTL are based on an industry standard, the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) codes published by the National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFCA).
